ROBIN HANNIBAL

Biography

As an artist, Robin first made waves in Europe and the States during the mid-2000s with Owusu and Hannibal, his collaboration with Danish singer Phillip Owusu, and also Boom Clap Bachelors, a collective of Danish musicians, later sampled by Kendrick Lamar as the track for “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” off of the platinum selling album Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City. The music reached many musicians and producers in the United States such as Questlove and Pharrell Williams, who became instant fans.

Following the success of Boom Clap Bachelors, Robin teamed with Danish singer Coco O and released the self titled debut album for his new project Quadron in July 2009. It was well received critically with Paste Magazine naming it the “Best of What’s Next” in 2010 and New York magazine listing the album Quadron at #7 on their top 10 best albums of the year. The music also caught the attention and was praised by artists such as Adele and Prince.

In 2011, Robin released a solo EP Bobby, on which he personally wrote, produced, arranged, and played every instrument, and earned rave reviews from DJ tastemakers.

After being introduced to Milosh through their mutual record label, Robin invited him to fly to Denmark to spend a week in the studio. This time together lead to the creation of three songs and the group known as Rhye. After anonymously releasing two tracks online, they immediately caught the attention of many people in the music industry and lead to much speculation about the groups true identity. This buzz landed them a record deal with Universal Music Group. The album Woman, released in March 2013, was lauded by critics and landed on the 2013 “Best of Lists” for Rolling Stone, Complex, and Pitchfork. This also included being listed at #8 on Billboard’s 15 “Best Albums of 2013.”

The year of 2013 also saw Robin release Avalanche, the follow up to Quadron’s self titled debut album Quadron. The album was a top 5 release in Denmark and spawned the certified gold single “Hey Love” in that same country. He was later that year awarded Best Producer and Best Hit (“Hey Love”) by the Danish Critics Choice Awards and Best Urban Act (Quadron), Best New Act (Quadron), and Best Producer by the Danish Music Awards.
